Unity Plugin Review – Map-ity by Rewind Game Studio

Written by Charlie. Posted in Cool Games, Reviews

UPDATE: The BuildR integration is awesome, and led me to purchase Road Architect which is also reportedly integrated with Mapity. Unfortunately, the immediate results of generating roads aren’t as cool as the video of BuildR below. I’m hoping that means it will just take more work figuring out the plugin and it will just be awesome in the end! Road Architect so far is sweet as hell, I’ll write a real review once I’ve played around a bit more. I think it’s important to realize that Mapity may not be as perfect for generating cities as it is for a cool way to plan out your city design. It won’t create the amazing models for you (though it helps by integrating BuildR and a shitty attempt at integrating Road Architect), but it will help you visualize where you should put them. The words below this line are full of wishful thinking; like all assets this one will take a while to figure out how far I can actually utilize it. Map-ity was on sale the other day so I figured, “Why not?” and bought it. Glad I did! I also bought BuildR a while back and the two of these together…  Oh man I can only imagine the possibilities!   I recorded this video below to show how quickly I was able to build New York City! Well, not the people, street, decorations or any of that, but using BuildR and Map-ity I generated buildings in the correct places in almost no time at all. It’s pretty awesome, and I’m excited to delve further into the power of this plugin.

I highly recommend you check out both plugins!   Enjoy the vid!

Unity Asset Review: Plygame v2.0.6b.beta

Written by Charlie. Posted in Reviews, Unity, Unity Asset Store

I originally purchased Plygame when it was UniRPG, basically a package that would help you make a role playing game. It was a great asset back then, and when the developer announced the new changes I was pretty excited. I’m happy to say that I wasn’t dissapointed. Now know as Plygame, this asset has a ton of stuff packed into it. The focus has also been expanded to include a lot more than just RPG functionality. With it’s own visual script editor, Plybox, the developer has put a lot of effort into this asset to give game developers the tools they need to create a whole range of games. With the latest updates we now have character controllers that use Mecanim animation, which is a huge help for me because I love mecanim. After about 10 minutes of learning the new layout, I had a main character set up with correct animations, a 3rd person controller, and I had a friend set up that follows me around the map I created! I have yet to delve into the skills and factions, but I plan on it soon and hopefully I’ll have more to say about those topics. Are you interested in Plygame, or have experience using it in your game? Let us know! To purchase the asset, click HERE. And for the support forums, HERE.
